Relative distance
2016-05-23
I've listened to [REDACTED] holler at our son to step back from the TV numerous times... today, all while having her nose pressed to a phone, intently working on something or other. I'm not sure if she realises that there's a screen in her phone or not. Possibly not. I'd better warn her to sit on the couch while using it.
Possibly the best part of watching TV with your corneas pressed to the screen is discovering the RGB pixels of that screen. To learn that white is somehow made up of red, blue, and green which magically merges after a certain distance is mindblowing to a six year old. From 5mm the images are a nonsense mosaic of scrambled colours, but a few more centimeters and it coalesces into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
Of course, staring at a screen at any of these distances has been proven to be relatively safe. Unless your TV is one of those.
