The Ball

When my baby was a baby, we tried putting objects in front of him and excitedly waited for him to interact with them. This usually resulted in a vacant stare followed by many minutes of completely ignoring whatever toy or object we'd offered up to him.
I'm not entirely sure why we expect babies to know what to do with our completely abstract toys which have no concrete use to anyone who hasn't had time to form an imagination yet.
