On my first visit to Beijing during Chinese New Year I found the street situation very much as depicted here. Fireworks were popping off everywhere, from the sidewalks. I often had to mind where one was launching off for fear of getting one in the head. One mis-lit box of rockets fell over sideways and started launching into the building right behind us. An older gentleman gently poked it with his shoe to try to right it while it was still firing. It was a really exciting night! This year is actually the Year of the Pig, so Happy Chinese New Year everyone and enjoy some dumplings, get your red pockets, and hang with your family.
