When I first got a good DSLR camera and found myself out at night around fireworks, I'll admit that I didn't directly watch them at all. It all went down through my lens as I tried to get the right focus and light level to capture them. Near the end of the show, I realised I had deprived myself of the whole reason for watching fireworks in person, that it is live, in your own presence, and unrepeatable. I still have difficulty putting my eyes before my lens sometimes, causing me to miss some pretty amazing things because the focus was still focussing. At least I have those videos stored on some hard drive somewhere that I've never looked at since.
