There are 10 celestial stems and they used to be the days of the week. This was because they thought there were 10 suns! Ouch. Got it a bit wrong there. But imagine, a ten day week over 3000 years ago; the Chinese were already metric! By now, the celestial stems have been appropriated for use in denoting the years, along with the earthly branches. For 2007, the celestial stem was 丁, which means "nail". This fire pig is quite happy to hold onto his vast fortune of golden coins, each worth one cent!
